Ecumenical Weekly Religion Classes for Blind

The Ministry is currently serving 30% of the students at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind. The main focus of our religion classes the past two years has been the Lord's Prayer and the Apostles' Creed. These two topics were chosen because it is important for blind students to be able to be an active participant in the worship service setting in their home congregation and to understand the meaning of these two important parts of the worship service. This year we are beginning a series that will take the students on a "walk" through the Bible and the opportunity to learn or review the stories of the Old Testament and its connection to the student's lives today.

After Christmas the MSAB students started learning stories of the Life of Jesus, starting with his birth and boyhood. These delightful students look forward to gathering to pray, sing, listen to and dramatize the stories of Jesus, and make craft projects related to the bible lesson.

First Communion And Confirmation

Christ Through Hands Ministry is able to provide for First communion instruction and Affirmation of Baptism/ Confirmation instruction. This instruction can be done on a one to one basis or as a part of a mainstream class at a local congregation of a denomination of the student/parents' choice.

Print Ministry

In addition to working with the students at the Academy, the Ministry provides weekly church bulletins and other worship materials in Braille for several congregations at no charge and provides large print and Braille for ecumenical worship services in the Faribault community. Upon request the Ministry can provide religious materials in Braille or large print for activities as choirs, Bible Studies, church plays, etc. Christ Through Hands also has provided religious Braille material for the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault.

Speaker and/or Display

Upon request, Christ Through Hands Ministry will provide a speaker (a director or board member) to do a presentation at a worship service, adult forum/discussion group, men's group, women's program, Bible Study group, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, youth event, etc. on the work of the Ministry. We will also provide a display of materials we use in our Ministry. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

Pastoral Consulation Available

From time to time, we receive calls from Pastors/Priests in local congregations from throughout the State of Minnesota who have a deaf or blind member or relative of a member who is need of some kind of pastoral visit or support. Often this is the first time this Pastor/Priest has encountered a blind or deaf person, and maybe unsure of how to best meet this individual (blind or deaf) person's spiritual needs. Christ Through Hands Ministry is available to provide resources or support as needed. Feel free to contact us for more information.
